I'm seven times seventy,
Plus a decade more.
This has all happened before.
Red and gold, I am no liar.
My nursery will be made
From my funeral pyre.
Who am I?

Answer:
The phoenix!
The phoenix, in mythology, is a fabulous bird that periodically
regenerated itself, used in literature as a symbol of death and
resurrection. According to legend, the phoenix lived in Arabia; when it
reached the end of its life (500 years), it burned itself on a pyre of
flames, and from the ashes a new phoenix arose. As a sacred symbol in
Egyptian religion, the phoenix represented the sun, which dies each
night and rises again each morning. According to Herodotus, the bird was
red and golden and resembled an eagle.
Oooh, the only reason I got this one was because of your hint. I love the phoenix. If I had more time ~my always mantra~ I would write a shapeshifter phoenix.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, a mantra most authors including this one have running through their heads! hehe
ReplyDeleteOooh a phoenix story would be wonderful! Plus, it would be new...I've not read a story with a phoenix shape shifter in it. Hmmm, something to think about! Perhaps, Savanna, you could bring one to Talbot's Peak. :)
Oh gosh, I can't think of her name right now... darn it... but, one of the LSB authors did write a phoenix shapeshifter book.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Talbot's Peak definitely needs a phoenix, perhaps a clan of them. ~smiles~
