Wednesday Word

I almost skipped over this word today until I read the last definition...

Scabrous \SKAB-ruhs\, adjective:
1. full of difficulties.
2. having a rough surface because of minute points or projections.
3. indecent or scandalous; risqué; obscene: scabrous books.

Scabrous is related to the common word scab. Both terms come from the Latin word scaber meaning "rough."  via

There's no doubt in my mind that some folks out there would consider the picture above indecent or scandalous, while others would see it as obscene.  I, myself, find it beautiful, touching, artistic and yes, perhaps a touch risqué.  It seems possible that my issue is not so much with the word scabrous (though I'm not crazy about the sound) but the adding of risqué to the definition.

Here's the definition of risqué...

Daringly close to indelicacy or impropriety; off-color: a risqué story.
Indelicate not indecent
Off-color is certainly true
And I would add my own words to this definition - tantalizing, sexy, naughty.
To link risqué with scabrous, devalues the word risqué.
More than likely mindset plays a big part in the use of these words.  If someone were to call me or my writing scabrous, I'd feel some offense.  But call me risqué and I'll smile happily for days.

Friday Foto...

Okay, yes, I'm a sucker for this kind of stuff.  I think because I'm such a dreamer.

So you see the picture above...beautiful blue sky, palm tree and boats bobbing in the warm St. Croix waters(in my mind it's warm).  Well as gorgeous as that shot is, you can go to this link and watch it all live! warned that it is a major time drain if you like seeing live shots of places you never been.  People, strangers, will meander across the screen, living their lives hundreds of miles away and you're watching.  Hey, there's a story there.

Right now the bones of it are tickling Mz. Muses' interest.

Maybe I should go back to watching it some more and see what I get.  I'm really not trying to make excuses on this Friday afternoon... really, I'm not.  ~wink~

Have a great weekend!

Winsom Wednesday

She stood strong and sentient while her skin peeled, her bones cracked.  She waited, her soul shining bright, guiding the lost home.

Sunday Scribbligs - Belly

Squatters, Mum
Have come to stay
Upon this land
Where I do play.

They dash around
All quiet and sullen
Hiding from us
Me and my mate Cullen.

Should I be quick
And snatch one up
Can I bring him
Home for sup?

We’ll feed him great
And fill his belly
With heaping glop’s
Of baked lamb and fine mint jelly.

Friends we’ll be
With the beings
Upon the moor.
Find more scribbles over at Sunday Scribblings.
