Wednesday Word of the Day

calvous \KAL-vuhs\, adjective:
Lacking all or most of the hair on the head; bald.

~Mmm, a big, brawny, sensitive yet strong, calvous hero.  So delish!~

Calvous is derived from the Latin word calvus which meant simply “bald.”

  1. Wow, another word I had no clue about. I wonder if the name Calvin originated from the root word?

  2. Hmm, it sure seems like it might, Savanna. 'Course what a thing to lay on your kid...think they would sit around worrying about losing their hair? ;)

  3. Only if they knew the meaning. Of some groups intentionally shaved their heads, and it could be a good thing then...?

Of course, I keep thinking of Calvinist, but that's from John Calvin, a religious term.
