Thursday Short Story Slam - Stormy Skies

We provide the image, you provide the story or poem.

I pushed down harder on the gas pedal hoping for more gusto then clearly the POS had to give.  It would have been easier all around if I’d just spread my wings and taken to the skies. Unfortunately, I had a soul in need of delivery to The Elysian Fields and Cerberus, the flying mutt, was much too fast for me to beat, weighed down with the body of the dead.
“Damn dog.”  Most mortals thought he was just a three-headed dog who guarded the underworld, but the truth was he was Hades’ tool, and a strong one at that!  His wings could reach miles long, his heads gave him a three-hundred and sixty degree view and his slobber was poison.
Neither mortal nor immortal could see the beast coming, but the tell-tale sign of his arrival was the beginnings of a tornado.   There was a minuscule moment of time, before the cone formed and reached from the sky to the ground, where I could possibly have out whit Cerberus, but the high pitched screaming from the back seat was advertising our position, loud and clear.
“Shut up!  Do you really want to be puppy chow, because every sound that comes out of your blue lips brings that dog to us?”
The glass shattering noise stopped only to be replaced with sniffles and weeping.
“Why is that th-th-thing chasing me?”
“To gobble you up and take you to Tartus…”
“W-why?”  The whimpers started again, but this time I was ready.
“Listen,” I barked, maneuvering the speeding car around as many potholes as I could manage, along the dirt road.  “Somewhere in your short life, you unknowingly made a deal with Hades, giving him your soul in exchange for who-knows-what.  I don’t think that’s right, so I’m taking you to the good place.  If I can get you there, you’re home free, your death shall be peaceful and carefree.  If that flying crap factory catches us…well, hot, rending pain would be a mercy…”
Great, again with the screaming.  I need to get better at the pep talks.

What a story slam, and a cliff hanger! Oh, Cerberus can be so naughty sometimes.

  6. Thanks Savanna! Yep, Hades has a definite dislike of Kass, of course that could be because she does everything in her power to spite him. Like taunting his pooch! ~wink~
