Wednesday Word of the Day

fulsome \FUL-sum\, adjective:

1. Offensive to the taste or sensibilities.

2. Insincere or excessively lavish; especially, offensive from excess of praise.

~Now this is a new word for me, but I like it.  I'm going to have to ponder how I can use it in a story.  :) ~

  1. Fulsome... hmmm... that reminds me of Fulsom [sp] prison in the Johnny Cash song...

Yeah, I have no clue how to work that word in effectively.

  2. That's right, it was a Johnny Cash song...It was also the title of a Supernatural episode. :)

Here's one example they give for this word:
~~Concealed disgust under the appearance of fulsome endearment.
-- Oliver Goldsmith, The Citizen of the World

  3. Used that way, it does make sense... maybe, making it an insult word would work.
