nepenthe \ni-PEN-thee\, noun:
1. A drug or drink, or the plant yielding it, mentioned by ancient writers as having the power to bring forgetfulness of sorrow or trouble.
2. Anything inducing a pleasurable sensation of forgetfulness, esp. of sorrow or trouble.
~Interesting, this word I could use in a story. :) ~
Nepenth, no, I've never heard of that word... it almost sounds as if it could be a character's name, as in one who induces pleasure.
ReplyDeleteThat word makes me think of the drink, Absinthe... made out of wormwood [I think} which had/has similar properties.
Ooh, that would be a good character name and mmm a pleasure inducer...I like it!!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I remember hearing about Absinthe, but I'm sure I've never tried it. ;)
